How to respond to adhan?

Azan is such a voice which is neither music nor a song but it has the power to attract people’s attention. As soon as the servants of Allah hear this voice, they rush towards Allah’s house like moths, because this voice calls towards Allah, calls towards success, calls towards prayer and it tells people that there is no one greater than Allah, He is the only one who is worthy of worship and Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the messenger of Allah.

The Virtue of Responding to the Adhan
In the hadith, there is a great virtue mentioned for responding to the Adhan (the call to prayer). It is said that the person who responds to the Adhan will enter Paradise. So, if you want to be included in the reward along with the one giving the Adhan, then as soon as the Mu’azzin (the person who calls for prayer) says the words of the Adhan, you should surely respond to those words.

How to Respond to the Adhan

The Adhan should be responded to in the following way:
When the Mu’azzin says, “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar,” you respond by saying, “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.”
When the Mu’azzin says, “Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah,” you also respond by saying, “Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah.”
This way, the entire Adhan is responded to, but for “Hayya ‘alas-Salah” and “Hayya ‘alal-Falah,” different words are used. You can see them below.

Adhan: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar
Translation: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest
Response: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar

Adhan: Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah
Translation: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah
Response: Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah

Adhan: Ashhadu anna Muhammadar Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadar Rasulullah
Translation: I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah
Response: Ashhadu anna Muhammadar Rasulullah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadar Rasulullah

Adhan: Hayya ‘alas-Salah, Hayya ‘alas-Salah
Translation: Come to prayer
Response: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil aliyyil azeem
Translation: There is no power or strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Great

Adhan: Hayya ‘alal-Falah, Hayya ‘alal-Falah
Translation: Come to success
Response: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil aliyyil azeem

Adhan: As-salatu khayrun minan-nawm, As-salatu khayrun minan-nawm
Response: Sadaqta wa bararta
Translation: Surely you have spoken the truth and have done a great deed

Adhan: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar
Translation: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest
Response: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar

Adhan: La ilaha illallah
Response: La ilaha illallah
Translation: There is no god but Allah
