A Supplication to Recite When Seeing Someone in Distress

When you meet different people and inquire about their well-being, you will find that everyone is suffering from some difficulty and is searching for a solution to their problem. When we witness this, do we ever reflect that Allah has put them in this situation but spared us? Why is that so? Are we a special creation of Allah on this earth? Certainly not.

We should reflect on the ease given to us by Allah and the hardship faced by the other person. The same difficulty and distress could have afflicted us because everyone’s boat is in turbulent waters; any unexpected event can happen to anyone at any time. But it didn’t happen to us, and for this, our tongues should always express gratitude because this ease is surely Allah’s blessing. So let us see what the Holy Hadith teaches us about this.

Gratitude Protects from Distress

In a Hadith, it is mentioned that expressing gratitude for your good condition after seeing someone in distress protects you from that difficulty. That is, if you see someone in hardship and thank Allah for your good condition, you will be safeguarded from the difficulty that the other person is facing. And we all wish to always remain safe from any troubles.

For such occasions, a specific dua (prayer) has been mentioned in the Hadith (Kisi Ko Takleef Me Dekhkar Padhne Wali Dua). If you recite this prayer, words of gratitude will naturally come to your tongue, and you will remain protected from that difficulty. The Hadith states:

The Hadith and the Dua

Hadith:
“Whoever sees a person afflicted with some trial and recites this prayer will be protected from that trial or hardship.”
(Tirmidhi Sharif 3432)

The Dua

In Hindi:
अल-हमदुलिल्लाहिल-लज़ी आफ़ानी मिम्मा ब्तलाक बिही वफ़द-दलनी अला कसीरिम मिम्मन खलक़ तफ्दीलन

In English:
Alhamdulillahilladhi Afani Mimmab Talaka Bihi Wa Faddalani Ala Kaseerim Mimman Khalaqa Tafdeelan

Translation:

“All praise is due to Allah, who has saved me from the trial you are afflicted with and blessed me above many of His creations.”

The Importance of the Dua

Remember, this prayer is not someone’s personal creation but has been taught in the Hadith. Therefore, its significance is immeasurable. May Allah grant us the ability to recite this prayer, protect us from the troubles of this world, relieve the difficulties of others, and bestow ease upon them.

Ameen.
